New Video Today - Floatless, Vertical Fair Isle

In keeping with my goal of getting a new technique video put up each month, this month I have a video showing how to do floatless vertical Fair Isle knitting.

This is easy, pretty, and gives you some fun options for adding color - including multiple colors and novelty yarns - to your knitting!

  1. I enjoyed this technique which at first I thought looked like intarsia but it is not. Can you please explain what type of chart you are using to determine whether this technique will work? Is it any type of Fair Isle design or are there some things to consider in the design of the pattern for this technique. Thanks

  2. I just make a chart on graph paper, with each "fair isle" stitch 2 rows tall.

  3. I have been thinking a lot about this video and will give it a try BUT I did wonder is this the same method that you would use to do a cable in two colours? I have seen a couple of cardigans in the shops recently with a cable twist in contrasting colours and thought they were very nice. They were knit all in rib by the way, probably something like 4x2 I would guess. I don't have the first clue how to achieve this on my knitting machine. I'm not a great sleeper and in the wee small hours of the morning I could picture doing a 3 x 3 cable with the contrast yarn travelling vertically just like this fair isle. Before I'd give it a go I thought I would ask you Diana and maybe avoid disappointment!!!

  4. I haven't seen the cables you're talking about, but I used to do Intarsia two-color cables. It's not hard, and it's very effective visually.

I am currently knitting samples of a new inset contrasting color cable that does not require Intarsia, for one of my monthly videos. Stay tuned...

  7. hello is it possible if you can do a video of you knitting a full needle ribbed pattern? single motif please? I have searched and searched for a video of someone doing this full needle double bed two colour jacquard and cant find one anywhere - I am trying to knit my grandson a sweater with a single motif on the front, but when i put in the full needle ribbing set up and implement the pattern and start off, i realise after a while that the pattern has not knit and all i am knitting is stripes !! i dont know where i am going wrong i am using a brother 950i and a kr850 ribber therefore using a double bed. If you could is it possible if you could email me @ ttaliotal at gmail dot com and send me a link to your tutorial please thank you sooo much if you do this for me I will say six hail marys and four our fathers every night for a week for you.

  8. First, thank you for your generosity in sharing so many videos. I'm not always interested in trying the techniques illustrated, but I always enjoy your presentation. I have played around with making my own video tutorials and find it vary difficult. Have you ever considered a tutorial on making videos?

You demonstrate this technique with single stitches. Can color stitches be made next to each other? Could this cause excessive "horizontal" floats? I will give it a try when I get a chance, but often I overlook obvious problems that a simple question could have avoided.

Thanks, again, and continue making more videos.

    Terry
