The Feather Scarf

Among hand knitters, small neck scarves are quite popular right now.  A reader asked me for a pattern, and I've done one and put it up for sale at www.dianaknits.com.  I also put up this video showing the techniques on a Brother.

This is something that is original and mine and very consistent with my love for lace making.  It's one more interesting use for slant lace.

I'm calling this The Feather Scarf because you can knit this with just 50 grams of yarn, or 40 grams of laceweight.  Got a little bit left on a cone?  An odd ball of sock yarn?  Here's a project for you!  My knit club members liked the looks of both the knit and purl sides. I think the purl side looks almost crocheted.  This isn't a keep-warm scarf, it's a lacey scarf to dress up an outfit.

I put out this video using a Brother, but Studio is so very different for lace-making that I have also done another video on a Studio machine with a punch card.  I had to do quite a few things differently!

Obviously, I can't teach on every machine, but between the two videos, which are both linked in the pattern, plus your machine manual, you should be good to go on any flatbed machine with a good lace carriage that transfers stitches.  This won't work on machines like the Passap or machines with no lace carriage (unless you want to transfer thousands of stitches manually).  It's ideal for Brother (KnitKing) and Studio (Silver Reed).
